4th Annual Scottish
Tug-in, June 2010
After
a very
busy few days setting up the course and making all the final
arrangements the 4th
Annual Scottish Tug-In hosted this year by Glasgow Richmond Model Boat
Club took place on Sunday 13th
June 2010 at Richmond Park on the south side of Glasgow. Despite heavy rain early in the morning it soon dried up to be a warm day with very light winds and only a few showers. Competition in both the single and double tows got under way at 11am and it was soon apparent that a very high standard was being set with only a few points between all the competitors.
Competitors
had travelled to this event from Ellesmere Port, Falkirk and even from
as far away as Balne Moor in Yorkshire. It was a great day to meet old
friends and catch up on what is happening in the tug-towing world in
the rest of the UK. Our own club was also well represented and it was
good to see two of our new members David Morrison and John Caywood
making a strong showing. At the end of the competition, Steve Clubbe, of Ellesmere Port, came first in the single tow and Ian Wallet and David Morrison won the double tow competition. Special mention should also be made of our young member Johnny Mason who did very well to come third in the single tow.
This
event
is becoming more popular every year and members of other boat clubs who
did not manage to attend this year should put a date in their diary for
2011. Even if England cant win at football we cant let them continue to
win this event. The
reason
for the success of this event is all the hard work put in by club
members who gave up their time on Saturday and Sunday, to set up the
course, prepare the park, clear up and do the 101 other jobs that were
done over the weekend. Special
thanks are also due to all who worked in the kitchen, on the hands on
boats and our Web /Video Master who will improve once he has had some
steering lessons! Again
many
thanks to you all for making this popular and relaxing event such a
success. Murray Wilson Vice Chairman GRMBC Click here for pictures of the event |
